The All Progressives Congress (APC) is built to last beyond the tenure of President Bola Tinubu, the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Hard Copy programme on Friday, Yilwatda emphasized that the APC’s structures, experience, and leadership depth ensure its survival, regardless of who holds the presidency.
“The APC existed before President Tinubu, it has thrived under his leadership, and it will continue to thrive after him,” Yilwatda said. He highlighted Tinubu’s pivotal role in forming the party ahead of the 2015 elections and in heading the reconciliation committee set up by late President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018.
“Even when he wasn’t president, Tinubu’s leadership was critical. He helped reconcile party factions, setting the stage for our 2019 election victory,” Yilwatda noted.
Looking forward, the APC chairman said Tinubu’s influence will remain significant as he transitions to the role of a former president, providing guidance and leveraging his political network.
Yilwatda also addressed concerns about the party’s performance in northern Nigeria, citing the 2025 by-election results as proof of the APC’s growing acceptance across the region. “We won seats in Kebbi, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, Kogi, and Niger.
Our support spans both religious and ethnic lines, showing the party’s broad grassroots reach,” he added.
He concluded that no other political party in the recent elections matched the APC’s widespread influence, positioning it as the dominant force at the local level.
