Accountability Watch, a pro-transparency organization, has urged Abdullahi Haske, businessman and son-in-law of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to present himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning.
Haske, who heads AA & R Investment Group, was placed on the EFCC’s wanted list on August 22 for allegedly breaching his administrative bail and ignoring the commission’s invitations. He is under investigation for alleged multi-million-dollar financial misconduct.
The businessman denied attempting to evade authorities, explaining that he had been away to attend to urgent medical matters. In a statement from his Abuja office, Haske said he is willing to cooperate with investigations, provided the EFCC operates within the law and without political bias.
Accountability Watch, however, dismissed this claim as a stalling tactic. Benjamin Asan, the group’s Executive Secretary, questioned why Haske has not made himself available for questioning, even from a medical facility, and called on him to allow the EFCC full access.
Asan emphasized that the EFCC is an investigative agency, not a judicial body, and that guilt or innocence is determined by the courts. He added that if Haske is truly innocent, cooperating with the commission would prove his credibility.
The group urged Haske to disclose his whereabouts and ensure unrestricted access to investigators to show genuine commitment to the probe.
