United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has held discussions with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, as Washington continues to await Iran’s response to a proposed peace plan.
The meeting, which took place on Saturday, focused on diplomatic coordination and ongoing security concerns in the Middle East.
According to the U.S. State Department, both officials reviewed efforts to maintain stability in the region and strengthen cooperation between Washington and Doha.
During the talks, Rubio expressed appreciation for Qatar’s continued involvement in diplomatic engagements, particularly its role in facilitating communication on sensitive regional issues.
The discussions also touched on defence collaboration between both countries, with emphasis on the need for sustained coordination to address security threats.
Qatar was again highlighted as an important intermediary in regional diplomacy, with U.S. officials noting its involvement in various negotiation efforts across the Middle East.
The meeting comes as the United States monitors developments around its peace proposal involving Iran, with diplomatic efforts still ongoing and no official response yet from Tehran.
Both sides reportedly reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation aimed at reducing tensions and promoting stability in the region.
