The All Progressives Congress has approved Abba Kabir Yusuf to seek a second term in the 2027 governorship election in Kano State after completing the party’s screening process.

The development was disclosed in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who confirmed that Yusuf was screened by a committee set up by the party’s National Working Committee after submitting his nomination and screening forms.

The exercise was overseen by the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, at the Plateau Governor’s Lodge, where the committee reviewed the governor’s documents and eligibility.

Yilwatda said the party was satisfied that the governor met all constitutional and internal party requirements needed to contest for another term. He added that Yusuf’s record in office, commitment to party cohesion, and efforts toward the development of the state informed the committee’s decision.

According to him, Yusuf currently stands as the only aspirant cleared by the party for the Kano governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 polls.

Responding after the screening, Yusuf thanked the party leadership for the confidence shown in him, saying the decision would encourage his administration to remain focused on delivering development across the state.

He reiterated his government’s commitment to policies that promote peace, economic progress, and inclusive governance, with continued attention to education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and job creation.

The governor also appealed to party members and supporters to maintain unity as political activities begin to intensify ahead of the next general elections.

The clearance comes as political parties across the country begin consultations and internal processes in preparation for the 2027 electoral cycle.
