Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, has declared his intention to run for governor of Anambra State in the upcoming election.
Okonkwo, who made the announcement at his country home in Ire village, Ogidi, on Friday, will contest on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.
Okonkwo, a successful businessman, expressed his determination to address the state’s governance challenges.
“I am driven by a deep sense of responsibility to contribute to the development of Anambra,” he said, emphasizing that his decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders across the state.
The businessman turned politician highlighted Anambra’s potential for growth, but pointed out that the state has not realized its full promise due to poor governance.
“The pains and horror of insecurity have left our people living in the bondage of fear,” Okonkwo said, vowing to bring real security and progress to the state.
The APC hopeful outlined his plans to prioritize security, economic transformation, job creation, and infrastructure development.
“Together, we can build a state that truly works for everyone,” Okonkwo asserted. His platform also focuses on education, human capital development, agriculture, technology, and skills acquisition.
He promised to champion the welfare of the youth, women, and vulnerable populations.
“I cannot do it alone. I need your support; together, we can make Anambra a shining example of excellence and good governance,” Okonkwo added.
Speaking on his vision for Anambra’s future, he emphasized that no society could thrive without security and accountable leadership.
“We will work closely together with security agencies, invest in community policing, and ensure efficiency in government,” he said.
With his bold pledge to transform Anambra, Okonkwo has set his sights on the governorship, hoping to lead the state toward a prosperous, secure, and globally competitive future.
