Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has restated his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election ambition, insisting that Rivers State should continue aligning with the president going into the 2027 polls.
Speaking at a political gathering organised by the Rainbow Coalition in Port Harcourt, Wike said the state had received notable federal attention since Tinubu assumed office, especially in terms of appointments and development-related opportunities.
He urged residents to compare recent federal engagement with Rivers State to what it received under past administrations, arguing that the difference should guide political decisions ahead of the next election cycle.
According to him, Bola Tinubu has shown appreciation to Rivers people through increased inclusion at the federal level, adding that such gestures should be reciprocated politically.
Wike maintained that political choices should be based on governance outcomes rather than ethnicity or sentiment, stressing that development should remain the central focus for voters.
He also emphasised the importance of grassroots mobilisation, noting that elections are decided at polling units and wards rather than through media visibility or political rhetoric.
The FCT minister further called for unity among political stakeholders in Rivers State, urging aggrieved politicians to reconcile and work together for the state’s progress. He added that there was room for cooperation within the Rainbow Coalition for those willing to join.
The event was attended by political figures across party lines, including candidates contesting various positions in the upcoming elections.
