A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has named former President Goodluck Jonathan as its candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement was announced on Saturday during a special national convention organised by the group led by former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki, at its secretariat in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.
Although Jonathan did not attend the event, delegates at the gathering formally approved his nomination. His Certificate of Return was received on his behalf by Fred Agbedi.
The convention attracted party members, delegates and stakeholders aligned with the Turaki-led faction, who expressed support for Jonathan’s emergence as the group’s preferred candidate for the next presidential contest.
The development comes amid ongoing divisions within the opposition party as various groups continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Further details on the convention and the implications of the endorsement are expected to emerge in the coming days.
