Senator Kabiru Marafa, who coordinated the Tinubu/Shettima campaign in Zamfara during the 2023 elections, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), along with his entire political network. Marafa, former Senator for Zamfara Central (2011–2019), accused President Bola Tinubu of sidelining both him and the state despite their role in securing his electoral win.

In a statement issued after a two-day meeting of his supporters in Kaduna, the Senator Kabiru Marafa Consultative Forum said the resignation is a protest against what they described as injustice, marginalisation, and neglect of Zamfara’s people. They promised to reveal their next political steps soon.

The group also pointed to worsening insecurity in the state, citing reports that Zamfara had the highest number of kidnappings nationwide in 2024, with 1,203 cases. They highlighted a single week in which 25 villages were attacked, resulting in 145 abductions and 21 deaths across several local government areas.

Marafa’s supporters criticised the federal government for failing to safeguard lives, while allegedly deploying security forces selectively during recent elections. They also lamented political exclusion, noting that Zamfara received only a Minister of State slot, whereas other states, including Lagos, secured multiple appointments.

The forum said Tinubu’s limited engagement with the state, especially in addressing recurring bandit attacks, amounted to selective justice and a breach of trust, undermining the APC’s principles of fairness and equity.
