The Presidency has said it is inappropriate to compare the kidnapping of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu’s sister and her twin sons with the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

Presidential media aide Temitope Ajayi made the remark on Sunday while reacting to public discussions surrounding the two incidents. According to him, the circumstances behind both kidnappings are different and should not be viewed through the same lens.

Ajayi explained that the criminals who abducted Adelabu’s relatives were part of an urban kidnapping network driven largely by financial motives and operating within a community, while those responsible for the school abduction are armed groups operating from remote areas.

He said the difference in the nature of the crimes requires different security responses, stressing that government agencies are not prioritising one case over another.

The presidential aide expressed confidence that the abducted pupils and teachers would be rescued, noting that security agencies were continuing efforts to secure their release.

He also urged Nigerians to welcome the safe return of Adelabu’s sister and her children while keeping the victims of the Oyo school abduction in their thoughts.

His comments came after police operatives rescued the former minister’s sister and her twin sons from their captors on Saturday, prompting renewed debate over the handling of kidnapping cases across the country.
