The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to establish new bus terminals in Bwari and Gwagwalada Area Councils to improve transportation and security in Abuja.
Speaking on Saturday, May 17, during an inspection tour of infrastructure projects in the territory, Wike revealed that the new terminals will complement existing ones in the city center and provide safer, more efficient travel options for residents.
“We have agreed that we are going to establish one bus terminal in Gwagwalada and one in Bwari. This will ensure that people can safely and securely travel from Bwari and Gwagwalada to various parts of the city, including Mabushi, Kugbo, and the Central Business District bus terminal,” Wike said.
“By providing these designated terminals, we aim to eliminate the problem of ‘one chance’ and ensure the safety of commuters.”
Wike also reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to bridging infrastructural gaps across the FCT.
“The government of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu is particularly concerned about and paying attention to the satellite towns,” he said, emphasizing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda focused on rural transformation.
Highlighting ongoing projects, the Minister mentioned the 12-kilometre road linking Ushafa and the dualization of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road.
He described the upgrade of the International Conference Centre as part of Tinubu’s vision to provide Nigerians with world-class infrastructure.
These developments, Wike noted, will reduce travel time, encourage more people to live outside the congested city core, and help reverse the rural-to-urban migration trend. “It will be a different thing, and people will no longer be compelled to live in the cities,” he added.
