President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring public trust by ensuring inclusive development and infrastructure growth across the country, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima during the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated Aguma Palace, Radio Nigeria, New Market Road in Gwagwalada, Tinubu said the focus of his government goes beyond physical structures. “We’re not just laying asphalt; we’re laying the foundation for renewed public confidence in governance,” he stated.
The President emphasized that the road project is a symbol of how the Renewed Hope Agenda is delivering real change to communities outside the Abuja city centre. He noted that, for too long, rural communities have been sidelined in development conversations, but that narrative is now changing.
“This project wasn’t imposed from above—it was selected by the people themselves,” Tinubu said, highlighting his administration’s commitment to participatory governance. He added that the road will significantly improve access to education, healthcare, and markets for the residents.
Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, also addressed the gathering, using the platform to criticize the newly formed opposition coalition. He questioned the motives of those pushing the alliance under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), arguing that they began organizing barely six months into Tinubu’s tenure.
Wike challenged key opposition figures, among them former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and ex-Senate President David Mark to provide records of their past achievements rather than discredit the current administration.
“Let those criticizing us show what they achieved when they were in power,” Wike said. “We’ve been working for just 16 days in some areas and already have results to show.”
He also took aim at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of political inconsistency and switching parties repeatedly since 1999.
Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, expressed appreciation to the President and Vice President for their support, noting that the road commissioning reflects the administration’s dedication to rural infrastructure renewal. She said the road had been in disrepair for years, but that Tinubu’s leadership had brought long-awaited relief to the people of Gwagwalada.
Providing a technical breakdown, Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, said the project initiated in September 2024 includes a 10km link road, reinforced sub-base layers, and solar-powered street lighting.
The commissioning marks another step in Tinubu’s efforts to demonstrate that every community counts regardless of location.
