Voters in Ede, the hometown of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, turned out early on Saturday to participate in the ongoing governorship election.

As early as 6:30am, residents were seen making their way to polling units, while some National Youth Service Corps members also arrived ahead of the commencement of the electoral process.

At several polling locations, voters began waiting from about 6:40am for the Independent National Electoral Commission officials to verify their details and commence accreditation.

Security operatives were deployed across Ede North and Ede South Local Government Areas, with personnel manning checkpoints as part of the restriction on vehicular movement during the election.

Election observers were also present at some polling units, monitoring preparations and the conduct of the exercise.

Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps arrived at some locations before 7am, ahead of INEC officials and the distribution of election materials.

While accreditation had commenced at some polling units, voters at other locations were still waiting for the lists of eligible voters to be displayed.

Among the polling units visited were locations in Sagba Agbogunde Ward 2, Adogbe Ward 3 and CAC Ward 4 in Ede North, as well as polling units in Orita Alajue, Obalaoye and Agip wards in Ede South.

Ede is the hometown of Adeleke, who is seeking another term as governor in the Osun governorship election.
