The Federal Government has issued a safety advisory to Nigerians living in Iran, urging them to limit their movement and remain cautious following escalating military attacks by the United States and Israel.
In a statement released on Friday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the government said it is closely monitoring the rapidly developing security situation in the Middle East.
The warning follows reports of coordinated airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel on several locations within Iran, including areas in and around Tehran. Explosions were reportedly heard in multiple Iranian cities after the attacks.
Nigerians residing in Iran and neighbouring Gulf countries were advised to stay alert at all times and avoid areas linked to military, government or strategic operations, which could become flashpoints as tensions rise.
The government also encouraged citizens to restrict non-essential travel, avoid crowded places and public demonstrations, and strictly follow security instructions issued by local authorities. Nigerians were further urged to rely on verified local and international news sources and to be cautious of misinformation.
According to the ministry, Nigerian embassies in Tehran and Gulf countries such as Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have been placed on high alert to provide consular assistance to affected citizens if necessary.
The Federal Government called on all parties involved in the conflict to exercise restraint and pursue diplomatic solutions in the interest of regional and global peace.
