UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has issued a statement after a car was driven into people in Liverpool city centre following the Liverpool FC Premier League victory parade. A man has been detained after a car was driven into people on Water Street at around 6pm today.
The incident occurred after the Liverpool FC open-top bus parade travelled through the city centre on Monday. A large emergency service presence is currently at the scene, with police vehicles, fire engines, ambulances stationed around the Water Street area. An air ambulance has also landed near the Liver Building.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre.
“We were contacted at just after 6pm today, Monday May 26, following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street.
“The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained.
