Two women of Nigerian nationality appeared before the Court for the Repression of Economic Offenses and Terrorism (CRIET) on Monday, November 25, 2024. They had been arrested at Cotonou airport as they were preparing to board a flight to India.

When they were arrested, nearly five kilos of cocaine were discovered in their luggage. The accused pleaded not guilty. The main suspect claimed that a friend had given her the suitcases at the last minute, before her departure. According to her statements, she wanted to leave Nigeria and simply thought she was acting as a courier, without knowing the contents of the luggage.

The deputy prosecutor requested a five-year prison sentence and a fine of five million CFA francs for each. The verdict will be delivered on February 10, 2025.
