US President Donald Trump has announced that he will not attend the wedding of his son, Donald Trump Jr., citing pressing government responsibilities in Washington.
Trump Jr. is scheduled to marry Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas this weekend, but the US leader said the current international situation requires his presence at the White House.
In a message shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump explained that although he had hoped to be present for the ceremony, matters concerning national governance and his commitment to the United States made the trip impossible.
The White House later confirmed that Trump had cancelled plans to travel to his golf resort in New Jersey and would instead remain in Washington.
The development comes as diplomatic efforts surrounding tensions in the Middle East continue to intensify. Iran is currently reviewing a fresh proposal from the United States aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in the region, while Pakistan’s military leadership is reportedly involved in mediation efforts with Tehran.
At the same time, tensions between Washington and Cuba have also escalated after US authorities reportedly increased pressure on the Cuban government by filing charges against former president Raul Castro.
The United States has additionally strengthened its military presence in the Caribbean by deploying an aircraft carrier alongside escort warships to the region.
