At least 27 people were killed and dozens more injured on Saturday as violent tornadoes and storms devastated the central United States.

Violent weather, including severe dust storms and powerful tornadoes, left a trail of destruction across multiple states, with authorities warning of more storms to come.

Missouri, Kansas, and Arkansas were among the hardest-hit areas. “It was the scariest thing I’ve ever been through, it was so fast, our ears were all about to burst,” said Alicia Wilson, a Missouri resident evacuated from her home.

In Kansas, eight people died in a crash involving over 50 vehicles during a dust storm that severely reduced visibility.

Missouri authorities confirmed 12 fatalities from storm-related incidents, while Arkansas reported three deaths and 29 injuries.

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders declared a state of emergency, pledging support from President Trump’s administration.

“He said to tell the people of Arkansas he loves them and he and his administration are here to help,” Sanders wrote.

As of Saturday evening, over 200,000 homes and businesses were without power, with more tornadoes predicted for the coming days.
