President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja after an overseas trip that included a stop in Paris and participation in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the United Arab Emirates.

The President’s return was confirmed on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said Tinubu came back to Nigeria after concluding official engagements in Abu Dhabi.

Tinubu had travelled to Paris in late December to complete part of his annual leave before proceeding to Abu Dhabi for the global sustainability summit held from January 11 to 15.

This is the second consecutive year the President has attended the event.

During the summit, Nigeria and the UAE signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement aimed at expanding trade, investment and economic cooperation between both countries.

The agreement provides duty-free access for thousands of Nigerian products into the UAE market and covers key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, agriculture, mining and renewable energy.

The deal was signed by Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, and the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, in the presence of President Tinubu and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Speaking after the signing, Oduwole said the agreement would open new opportunities for Nigerian exporters and businesses, adding that Nigerian companies would now be able to establish offices and subsidiaries in the UAE. She also noted that Nigerian business owners could stay in the country for up to 90 days within a 12-month period.

At the summit, President Tinubu also outlined Nigeria’s climate and energy transition plans, revealing that the country aims to mobilise up to $30 billion annually in climate and green industrial financing. He added that Nigeria’s Climate Investment Platform is expected to raise $500 million for climate-resilient infrastructure, while the National Climate Change Fund is targeting a $2 billion capital base.

The President further announced that a joint Nigeria-UAE Investopia summit will be held in Lagos in February, bringing together investors, policymakers and business leaders to explore investment opportunities in Nigeria

The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is an annual international forum focused on sustainability, climate action and energy transition, drawing global leaders and stakeholders from various sectors.
