President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, as Special Adviser and Coordinator for the Presidential Livestock Reform.
In a statement issued by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the appointment aims to drive significant progress in the livestock sector. Onanuga explained, “President Tinubu announced the appointment hoping to drive meaningful progress in the livestock sector and further strengthen national development efforts.”
Prof. Jega, 68, who previously served as INEC Chairman from 2010 to 2015, is recognized for his leadership in the Presidential Livestock Committee, which he co-chaired with President Tinubu.
The committee’s recommendations, including the creation of a dedicated Ministry of Livestock, were pivotal in shaping the ongoing reforms in the sector.
His new role will help ensure the continued momentum of these reforms, as Onanuga stated, “His appointment as special adviser to President Tinubu will reinforce the gains of the presidential committee and ensure the continued momentum of the reforms already in motion.”
Jega also serves as the pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano State.
