The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has called on the Federal Government to disclose the expected benefits and terms of Nigeria’s $700bn mineral deal with the United States.
The forum’s National Publicity Secretary, Professor Tukur Mohammed-Baba, made the appeal during an interview with Arise Television on Saturday, emphasising the need for transparency over the agreement.
Mohammed-Baba said Nigerians deserved to understand the details of the deal, including what the country would gain and the possible implications for its mineral resources.
He argued that an agreement of such magnitude should not be handled secretly, particularly at a time when many citizens are struggling with economic hardship.
The ACF spokesperson urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to make the agreement’s details public to prevent suspicion and strengthen public confidence in the government’s decisions.
Nigeria signed a critical minerals framework with the United States on September 23, 2026, at Nigeria House in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
Mohammed-Baba reiterated the forum’s commitment to promoting accountability and transparency, stressing that Nigerians should be adequately informed about major agreements involving the country’s natural resources.
