Stay in PDP and Support Tinubu – Osun Leaders Tell Adeleke

- 26 April 2025

The Osun Leaders of Thought (OLT) has advised Governor Ademola Adeleke to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and continue supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign for 2027, despite mounting pressure to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued on Friday, OLT’s Public Affairs Chief, Adesola Adigun, warned that any move to defect to APC could destabilize both Osun State’s political landscape and national political alignments. “We take note of mounting pressure from far and near to get Governor Adeleke to cross over to the APC. This is ill-advised and unnecessary,” the group emphasized.

The group affirmed its commitment to President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, stating it was not only a matter of political loyalty but also regional and ancestral obligation. “Osun, being Tinubu’s ancestral home, has a moral obligation to support his second term,” the statement read.

The OLT also cited the benefits of Governor Adeleke’s leadership in Osun, particularly his strong political appeal and the existing bipartisan support for both his re-election and President Tinubu’s bid. “To win Osun, Adeleke’s brand is a must for the President without dilution,” the group declared.

While advising against defection, OLT suggested a strategic alliance between Adeleke and the Presidency, emphasizing that the governor’s support for Tinubu should not be linked to a party switch.

“We call on Mr. President and the Governor of Osun State to enter into a mutual supportive agreement. Nothing like defection should be included,” the group concluded.
