President Bola Tinubu says Nigerian states are no longer facing difficulties paying workers’ salaries, attributing the improvement to the economic reforms introduced by his administration.

Speaking on Friday while receiving members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum at his Lagos residence during a Sallah visit, Tinubu said the country’s economy has recovered from a period of severe challenges and is now showing signs of growth.

According to the President, Nigeria has avoided economic collapse and is witnessing improvements in key sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure and housing. He commended state governors for supporting government policies and encouraging citizens to remain patient during the implementation of reforms over the past three years.

Tinubu noted that many states previously depended on federal government interventions and borrowing to meet salary obligations, but said that situation has changed as state finances have improved.

He also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects across the country, including developments along the Sokoto-Badagry corridor, which he said could boost irrigation, farming and electricity generation.

The President urged governors to maximise agricultural opportunities in their states, expressing confidence that Nigeria can achieve food security and strengthen its economy through increased agricultural production. He added that the benefits of the government’s economic reforms are becoming more visible as the country continues its recovery.
