The family of Abuja-based singer Ifunanya Nwangene, popularly known as Nanyah, has announced plans for her burial after her sudden death on January 31, 2026.
Nanyah passed away following a snake bite at her residence in Abuja. She was rushed to a hospital but could not be saved.
Her brother, Kingsley Nwangene, shared the funeral arrangements on Instagram, writing a short tribute, “Till I see you again,” alongside her obituary.
According to the family, a service of songs will be held on February 10 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Abule Oshun, Dansa, Lagos, starting at 4 p.m., followed by a requiem mass at 6 p.m. Nanyah will be laid to rest in her hometown in Enugu State on February 14, with a thanksgiving service to celebrate her life scheduled for February 15.
In a tribute to the late singer, the Abuja Metropolitan Music Society Choir held a memorial concert titled “Tribute and Songs” at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. The choir described Nanyah’s passing as a significant loss to the local music community.
Nanyah’s sudden death has also drawn attention to the rising number of snakebite incidents in Nigeria, where an estimated 43,000 cases occur annually amid shortages of antivenom.
