Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reportedly directed the Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, to resign following growing concerns over the accumulation of refuse across the state.
According to **PUNCH Online**, an insider within the agency disclosed on Monday that the governor had become dissatisfied with Gbadegesin’s handling of the waste management crisis, particularly the slow pace of refuse evacuation and alleged failure to implement directives.
The development reportedly followed Sanwo-Olu’s inspection of the Olusosun Dumpsite in Ojota, where he expressed dissatisfaction with waste management operations and ordered immediate improvements.
Despite the governor’s earlier declaration of a state of emergency on waste collection, several communities, including Mushin, Surulere, Egbeda, Ikorodu, Apapa and Mile 2, have continued to experience refuse accumulation along roads, residential streets and drainage channels.
The situation has raised concerns about public health, environmental sanitation and the effectiveness of waste collection services across Lagos.
The report further claimed that Gbadegesin had been appealing to influential Lagos residents to intervene on his behalf.
However, there has been no official confirmation of his resignation.
