Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially sworn in the newly elected chairmen and vice-chairmen of all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), urging them to focus on grassroots development and inclusive governance.

At a swearing-in ceremony held at the Lagos House in Ikeja on Sunday, the governor reminded the council leaders that their mandate is a call to serve, not a reward for political loyalty. He emphasized the importance of reaching every household with impactful governance, particularly in underserved communities.

“You’ve been entrusted with the responsibility to improve roads, schools, healthcare, youth empowerment, and more. The real test of leadership is what you do for those who didn’t vote for you,” Sanwo-Olu said, charging the new officials to prioritize service delivery over personal gain.

Sanwo-Olu also acknowledged the contributions of party leaders and electoral committees for ensuring a successful election, describing the outcome as a reflection of the people’s trust in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Bolaji Kayode Robert, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, congratulated the newly inaugurated officials and hailed the process that led to their emergence. He credited the peaceful and transparent election to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to democratic ideals at the grassroots level.

He also gave special recognition to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as the visionary force behind Nigeria’s evolving democratic structures.

Representing the newly sworn-in leaders, the Chairman of Ibeju LCDA, Hon. Sesan Olowa, expressed gratitude to the governor, his deputy, and party stakeholders. He pledged that the new council executives would implement projects and programmes that reflect the people’s needs and the party’s progressive agenda.

“We are fully prepared for the task ahead. We will work to deepen the party’s support and improve lives at the local level,” Olowa promised.

The ceremony marked a renewed commitment to local governance in Lagos, with expectations high for the newly elected officials to make a real impact in their respective communities.
