In preparation for the 2025 Ileya (Eid-el-Kabir) celebration, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has distributed subsidised rams, rice, and other essential food items to 2,500 civil and public servants across the state.

The distribution took place on Saturday at the Agricultural Credit Corporation’s premises at Total Garden, Ibadan, where the corporation’s chairman, Taofeek Akeugbagold, coordinated the handover of the festive packages.

Akeugbagold noted that the initiative is part of the state government’s ongoing effort to support workers’ welfare, especially during festive seasons.

“Over 5,000 public workers have benefited from the scheme so far,” he said. “The commodities were offered at prices far below the current market rates.”

Items distributed included rams, bags of rice, vegetable oil, and other staple goods. Beneficiaries are expected to repay the value through a structured three-month salary deduction plan.

Akeugbagold emphasised that the relief measure was triggered by the recent hike in the cost of essential items.

“Governor Makinde directed the corporation to provide this form of economic relief to workers to ensure they celebrate the festival with ease and joy, despite current economic challenges,” he stated.

He also revealed plans to expand the scheme in the future, adding that “this is part of the government’s broader agenda to promote inclusive economic support and social stability.”

One of the beneficiaries, Kunle Adeyemo, expressed his appreciation, saying, “This initiative will enable my family to partake in the Ileya celebration in a happy and dignified manner.”

The Makinde administration has consistently emphasised worker welfare as a cornerstone of its governance approach.
