“Retain Shettima as Vice-President in 2027” — Borno APC Tells Tinubu

- 15 April 2025

The Borno State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to retain Vice-President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 general elections. This appeal was made during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Sunday at the Government House in Maiduguri.

The party’s leadership, in a communique signed by Chairman Bello Ayuba and Secretary Mustapha Loskuri, reaffirmed its support for Shettima, praising his loyalty and dedication to Tinubu’s administration. The communique urged the vice president to remain steadfast in his service and praised the president’s policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Borno APC stakeholders expressed their full loyalty to the federal government and prayed for divine guidance and protection for both President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima. They emphasized the importance of maintaining the current leadership structure as the nation approaches the next electoral cycle.

The meeting also voiced confidence in Governor Babagana Zulum’s leadership in Borno, encouraging him to stay focused on his efforts to combat insurgency and criminality in the state. This comes amid Zulum’s recent concerns over renewed Boko Haram attacks and the displacement of military bases in some local government areas, which he described as a major setback in the fight against terrorism.

The governor acknowledged the federal government’s ongoing support but called for intensified efforts, including the use of advanced technology in warfare, to address insecurity in the Sahelian region.

Among those in attendance were Ali Bukar Dalori, APC deputy national chairman (North); Senator Mohammed Monguno, chief whip of the Senate; Senator Ali Ndume; Kaka Shehu Lawan; several members of the House of Representatives; former governor Maina Ma’aji Lawan; former ambassador to China, Dauda Danladi; and former ambassador to Pakistan, Baba Ahmed Jidda.
