The House of Representatives has inaugurated an ad-hoc committee to investigate the implementation of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Policy in the country.

Speaking during the inauguration in Abuja on Thursday,  chairman of the committee, Rep. Jaha Usama (APC-Borno), said that the mandate to the committee included assessing the safety, viability and sustainability of the CNG policy in Nigeria.

According to him, they are to ensure that the executive arm of government established CNG centres equitably across the country to give all Nigerians a sense of belonging;

The chairman said that the committee will engage relevant agencies of government, International Oil Companies (IOCs) and other organisations to ensure that the nation’s policy on CNG met global best practices.

He said that the committee would equally determine the adequacy of existing regulatory and legal frameworks governing the implementation of the CNG policy and recommend appropriate legislative measures.

Usman said that he was grateful to the leadership of the house for the composition of the committee, saying that it is made up of very experienced, active and hardworking lawmakers.

“I, therefore, urge you all to look at the mandate of the committee as gleaned from the votes and proceedings to guide our deliberations in order to enhance the work plan already being drafted by the secretariat.

Recall that the House of Representatives on Thursday, May 2025 considered a motion titled “Call to Establish More Compressed Natural Gas Conversion Centres Across Nigeria.”

In their resolution on the motion, the house urged the federal government to establish CNG centres equitably across the country to give Nigerians sense of belonging.

The green chambers also resolved to set up an ad-hoc  committee to investigate the implementation of the CNG Policy in Nigeria.

Speaker of the house, Rep. Abbas Tajudeen, same date announced the constitution and composition of the ad-hoc committee made up 11 members.
