President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday, January 6, for Accra, Ghana, to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7.
Mahama, who previously served as the 12th president of Ghana from 2011 to 2017, was re-elected in December 2024 and will succeed President Nana Akuffo-Addo, whose tenure spans from 2017 to 2025.
A statement issued on Sunday by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that President Tinubu’s visit is in response to an invitation from the president-elect. Mahama had visited President Tinubu earlier in December 2024.
“Mahama and President Tinubu have a longstanding personal relationship, just like Nigeria and Ghana maintain a longstanding bilateral relationship,” the release read.
As the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu will join other African leaders at the inauguration ceremony.
He will be accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior government officials.
