The Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday failed to produce the self-proclaimed Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeyemi Adeniyi, before the House of Representatives committee investigating the alleged agency.

The House Ad Hoc Committee had earlier directed the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to produce Adeniyi before lawmakers by noon on Wednesday to assist with the investigation.

However, when the committee resumed its sitting, police officials said Adeniyi could not be brought before the lawmakers because he is being held under a valid court remand order.

The police explained that they would require a written court warrant or other legal authorisation before releasing him from custody to appear before the committee.

According to the police, although they are ready to cooperate with the House investigation, they must not act in a manner that conflicts with an existing court order.

They therefore asked the committee to obtain the necessary court-backed approval to enable them to produce the suspect before lawmakers without breaching the remand order.
