Police Deploy Security Personnel Ahead Eid el-Fitr Celebrations in Lagos

- 29 March 2025

Lagos State Police have ramped up security across the state in preparation for the 2025 Eid el-Fitr celebrations, deploying a large number of officers to vulnerable areas to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the deployment of conventional police, elite strike forces, and tactical units to key locations.

“CP Jimoh has ordered the immediate deployment of personnel of Conventional Police, the Elite Strike Forces, and Tactical Units of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to all strategic locations across the state,” Hundeyin said.

According to Hundeyin, the police have focused on high-risk areas such as black spots and flash points, ensuring maximum security at Eid prayer grounds, public celebration venues, and recreational areas.

“This will remove the fear of crime from the minds of all Lagos residents and visitors alike and ensure a hitch-free Eid-Fitr celebration this year and beyond,” he added.

The security measures include the use of armoured personnel carriers, anti-bomb squads, and intelligence units. Police personnel will patrol throughout Lagos, particularly in areas expecting large gatherings.

“The CP has also deployed intelligence, anti-bomb squads, and conventional teams across the state, with armoured personnel carriers and other vehicular patrol teams,” Hundeyin noted.

The police are coordinating efforts with other security agencies to maintain order, and Hundeyin emphasized the importance of professionalism and courtesy. “Officers are to be courteous, polite, and professional but firm in carrying out their official duties,” he said.

Lagos residents have been urged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity, and cooperate with the authorities. “CP Jimoh implored all Lagos residents to be law-abiding, tolerant, and respectful,” Hundeyin said.

For emergencies or to report misconduct, residents can contact the police control room at 08063299264 or 08065154338.

The police force also advised parents to ensure their children are not involved in any activities that could disrupt the peace during the celebrations.

In closing, Hundeyin wished all Muslim faithful in Lagos a peaceful and joyous Eid. “On behalf of the entire personnel of the command, we join Muslim faithful in the celebration and fervently wish them sustainable peace, love, and joy associated with the holy ceremony,” he stated.
