Leader of Nigeria’s Labour Party and former presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi will deliver the keynote address at the 16th Founder’s Day and 20th Convocation Ceremony of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 30, 2024, and is expected to highlight Obi’s ongoing engagement with prestigious academic institutions around the world.
This year, Obi has already delivered speeches at some of the world’s most renowned universities, including Harvard University, Yale University, the Wharton School, and Peace University, further cementing his commitment to global discourse on education and development.
AUN’s Founder’s Day lecture, part of the university’s 20th-anniversary celebrations, will also serve as a tribute to the institution’s founder, former Nigerian Vice President His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, GCON, Waziri Adamawa, for his significant contributions to education and societal development.
Since its inception in 2003, AUN has risen to prominence as one of Nigeria’s top universities, currently ranked among the top three in the 2024 Times Higher Education Global Impact Ranking.
Professor DeWayne Preston Frazier, AUN President, expressed enthusiasm about Obi’s role as keynote speaker, saying: “We are honoured to welcome His Excellency Peter Obi, CON, as our keynote speaker.
He is an accomplished public servant and a champion of education, making him an excellent choice to mark this milestone,” said Professor Frazier in a message to the AUN community.
