Chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Wednesday joined the Save Democracy Protest.

The trio were in Abuja at Maitama Roundabout in the Federal Capital Territory, where the protest is taking place.

Earlier, Peter Obi announced the protest through his 𝕏 handle on Wednesday, calling on Nigerians to rise in defence of the country’s democratic system.

According to him, members and leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside other well-meaning Nigerians, organised the demonstration to resist what they described as threats to Nigeria’s democracy.

He stated that the opposition coalition would not stand for a one-party state.

We, members and leaders of the ADC and other well-meaning Nigerians, lovers of democracy, are saying that our democracy must not be killed.

“We say no to a one-party system, and for that reason, today we are calling on Nigerians who believe in unity, peace and the security of our country to join us as we defend democracy in our land,” Obi stated.

A flyer circulating online ahead of the protest reads: “SAVE DEMOCRACY PROTEST!

“Defend our freedom, protect our vote! Save our democracy. You are welcome, Maitama roundabout, Abuja. Your vote matters.”
