The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has announced a nationwide strike, directing its members across all offices, companies, and agencies to suspend work from 12:01 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025.
The decision followed a meeting of the union’s National Executive Council held on Saturday, where it resolved to intensify pressure on authorities to address its concerns regarding the Dangote Refinery.
Ahead of the full strike, members stationed at operational sites, including control rooms, panels, and field locations, were asked to withdraw their services from 6:00 a.m. on Sunday. They were also instructed to hold continuous prayer vigils, seeking divine intervention for government leaders to compel compliance with Nigerian laws.
In its directive, the union ordered an immediate suspension of all crude oil and gas supplies to the Dangote Refinery and its petrochemical units. It further mandated International Oil Company (IOC) branches to reduce gas production feeding the facility.
PENGASSAN emphasized that during the strike, no intervention or exceptions would be permitted at field locations, except for cases involving safety of lives and assets, and even then, clearance must come directly from the union’s national leadership.
The association defended its action as a fight against impunity, declaring that no individual or business interest should be allowed to place itself above national laws.
This latest escalation comes amid weeks of tension between the union and Dangote Refinery, following disputes over labor practices and compliance with industry regulations.
