The Peoples Democratic Party has announced plans to launch a nationwide digital membership registration exercise starting Monday, March 2, 2026, as part of its early preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The party, led by the Tanimu Turaki faction, said the initiative is aimed at widening its support base, rebuilding grassroots structures, and onboarding new members across all parts of the country.
In a statement released on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the PDP explained that the move was also designed to ensure compliance with recent electoral requirements introduced ahead of the next election cycle.
Earlier in February, the Independent National Electoral Commission had announced February 20, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections, with governorship and state assembly polls scheduled for March 6, 2027. However, following amendments to the Electoral Act by the Nigerian Senate, the mandatory notice period for elections was reduced from 360 to 300 days.
This adjustment prompted INEC to issue a revised timetable, shifting the presidential and National Assembly elections to January 16, 2027, while governorship and state assembly elections were moved to February 6, 2027.
Under the updated schedule, political parties are required to submit a comprehensive digital register of their members by April 2, 2026. The PDP noted that this requirement informed its decision to immediately begin the digital registration process nationwide.
According to the party, registration will take place daily excluding Sundays at ward, local government, and state offices across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Special cases will be handled at the party’s national secretariat.
The PDP also disclosed that a committee chaired by its National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Daka Shan, has been constituted to supervise the exercise and address complaints that may arise during the process.
Party members and prospective registrants have been encouraged to visit the nearest PDP office in their wards to participate in the exercise, which is expected to last for three weeks.
