President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his victory in the Osun State governorship election, urging him to focus on uniting the people and advancing the state’s development.

Tinubu made the remarks in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, after the results of the August 15 election were announced.

The President said he had spoken with Adeleke by phone to congratulate him, noting that the result showed the level of support the governor enjoys among voters in the state.

He urged Adeleke to reach out to residents across political lines and work towards greater stability, economic growth and social development during his next four years in office.

Tinubu also praised the candidates who contested the election, saying their participation strengthened Nigeria’s democratic process. He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for what he described as a peaceful and transparent election.

Adeleke was declared the winner at about 7:24am on Sunday by the State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.

The governor polled 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes. Adeleke secured victory in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.

African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam came third with 17,180 votes.

The victory gives Adeleke another four years as governor after he first won the position in 2022 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party. He contested the 2026 election under the Accord Party.

Adeleke later thanked Tinubu for the congratulatory call and reaffirmed his support for the President’s bid for a second term in 2027.
