The palace of the Ooni of Ife has denied claims that Nollywood actor James Olarenwaju, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, was recently conferred with a chieftaincy title by the monarch.

The clarification came after the actor announced on social media that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, honoured him following the birth of his son by presenting him with a new car and a traditional title.

Responding to the claim, the Ooni’s spokesperson, Moses Olafare, said the palace could confirm that Baba Ijesha received a vehicle from the monarch but had no knowledge of any chieftaincy title being awarded to him.

Olafare explained that the Ooni has a long-standing tradition of gifting cars to individuals as a gesture of appreciation, noting that many people, including traditional rulers and other prominent personalities, have benefited from such acts over the years.

Another palace source also dismissed the claim, saying no formal chieftaincy title was conferred on the actor. The source described the report as inaccurate and maintained that such honours are not granted in the manner claimed.

Baba Ijesha had expressed gratitude to the Ooni for the gifts, describing the gesture as an act of fatherly kindness. He also claimed he was given the title “Baba Awada Konge Oduwa” during the celebration.

The actor has continued to attract public attention following the birth of his son, recently sharing photos and videos of himself travelling with his wife and newborn child while expressing gratitude for his growing family.
