A worker was injured after a five-storey building under construction partially collapsed on Durban Street, Wuse II, Abuja, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed.

The incident occurred at about 6:30 pm on Saturday, October 17, prompting the deployment of emergency responders to the site.

In a statement, NEMA said its Abuja Operations Office received the alert and mobilised relevant agencies, including the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service. Its emergency ambulance team from the AYA response bay also participated in the rescue operation.

The agency confirmed that no life was lost, while the injured worker was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The latest incident comes amid repeated building collapses across the Federal Capital Territory.

In September, a three-storey building in Wuse Zone 4 collapsed hours after officials of the FCT Administration’s Department of Development Control reportedly sealed the property and instructed occupants to leave.

Another collapse occurred in August in Kubwa, where part of a residential building containing six blocks of flats gave way. Two residents were rescued and taken to Kubwa General Hospital in stable condition.

In May, a three-storey building under construction collapsed in Durumi 3, near Gudu Market, killing five people. Fifteen people were recovered from the debris, nine of whom were rescued alive.

Following the May incident, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ordered a comprehensive investigation and warned developers to adhere to approved building standards and permit government officials to inspect construction sites.
