Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, the Nollywood filmmaker, has revealed that her directorial debut ‘Mother’s Love’ earned more than N103 million at the box office, but only N22.28 million reached the producers after a series of deductions.
In a video shared on her Instagram page, the 48-year-old director broke down the film’s theatrical earnings, stating that ‘Mother’s Love’ concluded its cinema run with a total gross of N103,094,663.
She, however, explained that the final figure was sharply reduced after subtracting fees for exhibitors, distributors, print and advertising costs, Value Added Tax (VAT), entertainment tax, withholding tax, and other cinema-related charges.
“I will now give the numbers. At the end of our run, we had made N103,094,663 after deductions for exhibitors, distributors, print and advertising, and value-added tax (VAT),” she said.
“Entertainment tax and withholding tax, all deductions and everything else from cinemas. The money that was accrued to us as producers of Mother’s Love was N22,276,558.”
With a runtime of 1 hour and 42 minutes, ‘Mother’s Love’ first premiered last year at the 50th anniversary of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it generated significant buzz on social media.
It tells the story of Labake, a woman who must rely on her wisdom and vision to hold her family together as it faces the threat of disintegration.
