The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has stated that Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, became an assistant pastor in the church about a decade before her husband assumed the presidency.

He made the clarification during the RCCG monthly Holy Ghost Service held in Simawa, Ogun State, where he addressed concerns and public comments about her role in the church.

Adeboye explained that Oluremi Tinubu underwent the full training process required by RCCG, including discipleship and workers’ training, before her ordination as an assistant pastor. He added that her spiritual journey in the church started long before her husband’s political rise.

He also noted that she has remained in the same pastoral position since her ordination, saying any further promotion would depend on meeting additional requirements set by the church.

The cleric dismissed suggestions that RCCG is politically affiliated, stressing that the church is open to people of all political parties and does not operate as a political platform.

He further remarked that leadership outcomes, including Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, are known only to God, urging members to focus on spiritual growth rather than political debate.

Adeboye also restated that his leadership is limited to RCCG matters, saying he is responsible only for the church and operates under its internal authority structure.
