The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the tragic passing of popular Yoruba actress Omotola Odunsi.
Her death was confirmed on Thursday by fellow actor Akinola Akano, widely known by fans as Segbowe. In an emotional Instagram post, Segbowe shared the heartbreaking news along with screenshots of their last conversation, where the late actress had expressed hope about her recovery.
“Motola… you told me you were fine and back. This is such a shocking blow,” he wrote, lamenting the unexpected loss.
Veteran actor Odunlade Adekola, under whom Omotola honed her acting skills, also reacted to the news with disbelief. Taking to social media, he simply posted: “Jesus Christ. RIP Omotola.”
Omotola had built a solid reputation in the Yoruba movie scene, featuring in acclaimed productions such as Lisabi: The Uprising, Officer Adaeze, Amonata, Ayanmo Ire, and Ifedayo.
