
Nollywood actress Nkechi Nweje has passed away following a brief illness, confirmed by movie producer Stanley Ajemba.
Her death, which occurred on March 22, 2025, has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian film industry.
Ajemba, who referred to Nweje as his “best friend,” shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, expressing his disbelief. “Couldn’t post since morning because it was like a dream to me.
Ezigbo Nwanyi Onitsha,” he wrote. He recalled their final conversation, during which Nweje advised him to stop during the “Queen’s saga,” leaving him still “speechless” over her sudden loss.
Veteran actress Rita Edochie also mourned Nweje, sharing a candlelight image with the caption, “This world is really not our home.”
Actor Asa Ikuku echoed the sentiment, calling Nweje a “blessing” to Nollywood and describing her as a “legend” who will be deeply missed.
Survived by her husband, Dr. Azuibuike Nweje, and six children, Nweje was renowned for her powerful performances in maternal roles.
She leaves behind a lasting legacy in Nollywood, remembered for her warmth and remarkable talent.
