Nigeria’s headline inflation rate eased to 15.91% in June 2026, down from 15.93% in May, according to the latest Consumer Price Index report released by the National Bureau of Statistics.
The NBS confirmed the figures on its official X page Wednesday, noting that the June rate was significantly lower than the 25.29% recorded in June 2025, reflecting continued moderation in headline price growth on a year-on-year basis.
On a month-on-month basis, the bureau said headline inflation stood at 1.66% in June, 0.09 percentage points lower than the 1.75% recorded in May.
While headline inflation eased, food prices moved in the opposite direction. The NBS said the food inflation rate stood at 17.52% year-on-year in June.
Month-on-month, the food inflation rate was 3.75% in June, up by 0.77 percentage points from 2.98% in May.
The bureau did not provide an immediate breakdown of the specific food categories or regional factors driving the month-on-month uptick.
The figures come as the government continues efforts to stabilize the naira and improve food supply chains nationwide
