Authorities in the Philippines have arrested a man in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Nigerian national in Las Piñas City, police confirmed.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, January 6, 2026, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
Police said the suspect was apprehended shortly after the attack following a chase involving concerned residents and responding officers.
An NCRPO report stated that the stabbing took place at about 3:45 a.m. in Basa 1, Barangay Zapote. The victim, an unidentified Nigerian man estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old, sustained stab wounds to the lower left abdomen and left arm.
A witness told investigators that she was sorting recyclable materials when she overheard a heated argument outside. Moments later, she heard someone shout, “Give me the money.” When she looked out, she saw the victim struggling with two men.
The witness said one of the suspects stabbed the victim before fleeing with an accomplice identified only as “alias Lu Long,” who remains at large.
Despite his injuries, the victim reportedly pursued the suspect and struggled with him again before the suspect managed to escape.
Barangay security officers rushed the victim to Las Piñas District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:24 a.m. by the attending physician.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the second suspect, while investigators and Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) have been deployed to assist with the technical investigation. The case has been reported to police command centers, and a homicide investigation is ongoing.
