Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has announced Senator Aliyu Wadada as his preferred candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 governorship election.

The Nation reports  that Governor Sule made the announcement during a meeting with political appointees at the Government House in Lafia on Thursday.

Wadada currently represents Nasarawa West Senatorial District in the 10th Senate.

He recently defected from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the APC amid growing speculation over his governorship ambition.

Wadada, who is the chairman of the Senate committee on public accounts, is from Keffi in the western zone of the state; the zone governor, Sule, has been promoting him to take the governorship slot, as the last time the zone produced a governor was Sen. Abdullahi Adamu from 1999 to 2007, and the Southern and Northern zones have produced a governor in recent years, himself coming from the Northern zone.
