Veteran Nigerian rapper, Sasha P, has voiced concerns about the growing obsession with wealth in Nigeria and its impact on how people are valued.

The 41-year-old, whose real name is Anthonia Yetunde Alabi, expressed her frustration with the societal tendency to equate a person’s worth with their financial status.

According to her, this trend has led to a disturbing idolization of the wealthy, where individuals with money are treated as if they are above others.

Sasha P pointed out that wealth should not be viewed as a measure of a person’s character or wisdom.

She wrote, “Money doesn’t automatically make you cool or good company to keep. It doesn’t excuse you from accountability or bestow you with emotional intelligence. It is an amplifier….your character will still be far from wisdom!”

She further criticized the idea that wealth automatically grants social coolness, emotional intelligence, or freedom from accountability.

She also highlighted the troubling practice of using one’s net worth as a retort in conflicts, saying, “So unbecoming when the first retort to an affront is ‘how much do you even have?’” Sasha P urged Nigerians to reconsider their attitudes towards wealth, stressing that “Your self-worth should not be tied to your possessions.”
