Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has announced that 30 kilometers of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Phase 1, Section 1, will be completed before May 29, 2025.
During an inspection of the project, Umahi expressed confidence that the section would be ready for commissioning, with the contractor, HITECH, pledging to work “day and night” to meet the deadline.
“We will aim and will try our utmost best to deliver as His Excellency promised,” said Mr. Dany Abboud, the Managing Director of HITECH.
Umahi emphasized the broader scope of the project, which spans 700 kilometers, including the construction of reinforced concrete roads, solar lights, and a train track between the carriageways.
“This project is not just road construction. It is an investment,” Umahi stated, highlighting plans for windmill energy and carbon credits.
Despite encountering challenges, such as clearing a large refuse dump, Umahi is optimistic that the first 30 kilometers will be ready by the end of May. “We are very confident that they will deliver accordingly,” he added.
The completion of this section is expected to ease congestion in Lagos, improve the Apapa Port, and contribute to infrastructure development along the coast.
