The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has released the official list of 51 chairmanship candidates who emerged from Saturday’s party primaries conducted across various Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

The primaries, held in preparation for the July 2025 local government elections, produced candidates through a combination of consensus and electoral processes, in line with the party’s internal guidelines and the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) timelines.

According to party sources, the exercise was largely peaceful, with minimal reports of disruptions in a few locations. Most LGAs and LCDAs conducted their selection processes without incident, aided by monitoring from party officials, security agents, and civil society observers.

“We’re proud of how things turned out. The primaries reflect our party’s commitment to grassroots democracy,” said an APC organizing committee member who monitored several LGAs. “Lagos APC is setting a template for other states.”

In many councils, especially in areas where stakeholders reached a unanimous decision, candidates were chosen by consensus. However, in others, aspirants contested in delegate-based primaries.

“We followed due process in every LGA and LCDA,” said a spokesperson from the Lagos APC Secretariat. “In places where consensus wasn’t possible, we held elections. The results stand as a product of party democracy.”

Among the prominent candidates are Prince Akanbi Hamzat (Ifako-Ijaiye), Barr. Moyosore Ogunlewe (Kosofe), Hon. Yusuf Sule (Surulere), Otunba Kehinde Oloyede (Oshodi-Isolo), Taiwo Oyekan (Lagos Island), Akinpelu Ibrahim (Alimosho), Jimoh Abiodun Ishola (Agbado-Oke Odo), and Bola Oladunjoye (Ikoyi-Obalende).

A total of 51 candidates emerged from the process, representing every LGA and LCDA in Lagos State. Their emergence formally positions the APC to contest for all available chairmanship seats in the upcoming polls.

With elections scheduled for July 2025, the release of the candidates’ list marks a major milestone for the APC, which currently controls all 57 councils in Lagos. Party leaders are optimistic about retaining dominance.

“This is a crucial election for us. Local councils are the heartbeat of governance,” said Hon. Ogidan Azeez, candidate for Coker-Aguda. “Our campaign starts now, and we’re ready to engage the people.”

While the party says the process was credible, minor disputes were reported in a few wards, mostly involving complaints about delegate lists and late starts. However, party leaders insist those issues have been addressed.

“We’re managing internal disagreements maturely,” said an APC elder from Badagry. “In the end, unity is more important than personal ambition.”

With candidates officially confirmed, the APC will now turn its focus to grassroots mobilization and campaign strategy. Stakeholders are expected to hit the ground running across Lagos communities in the coming weeks.
