Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has accused a Ghanaian television station of broadcasting her latest film without her consent, alleging that the movie was aired less than a day after it premiered on YouTube.

In a video posted on her Instagram page on Saturday, Ojo claimed that a television station identified as North East TV had transmitted The Memory of You Part 2 without obtaining the necessary rights.

The actress expressed disappointment over the alleged unauthorised broadcast, saying she only discovered it after the film had already been shown on the station. According to her, such actions undermine the efforts of filmmakers who invest heavily in producing movies.

Ojo argued that piracy deprives producers of the revenue needed to recover production costs and sustain future projects. She noted that filmmakers spend significant amounts on actors, filming locations, costumes, accommodation, equipment and other aspects of production, making illegal broadcasts financially damaging.

She appealed to Ghanaian authorities, including the Ghana National Film Authority and the country’s leadership, to investigate the matter and strengthen efforts to curb piracy.

The actress’s claims drew support from several colleagues in the Nigerian film industry. Actress Destiny Etiko said the alleged practice had affected many filmmakers, adding that she had repeatedly complained about similar incidents.

Bimbo Ademoye also reacted, suggesting that previous complaints about piracy had not produced meaningful action and expressing frustration over how such cases were handled.

Several social media users encouraged Ojo to seek legal redress, with some arguing that broadcasting copyrighted content without the owner’s approval violates the law and should attract sanctions.

The television station had not publicly responded to the allegation as of the time of filing this report.
