Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has urged Ghanaian actors to stop comparing their earnings with those of Nigerian actors when working on the same movie productions.
Kanayo, popularly known as KOK, made the comments after arriving in Accra, Ghana, for a film project.
The actor said he had encountered situations where Ghanaian performers demanded fees similar to those paid to their Nigerian colleagues simply because they were appearing in the same production.
He advised actors to assess their own experience, reputation and professional value when negotiating their fees instead of using another actor’s earnings as a benchmark.
Kanayo stressed that the entertainment industry has different levels of recognition and experience, which can influence how much individual performers are paid.
He said Ghanaian actors should focus on negotiating a fee they consider fair and avoid making comparisons with Nigerian stars.
The veteran actor also revealed that the issue had surfaced again in the Ghanaian production he was preparing to work on.
Kanayo said he was willing to identify some of the actors involved but eventually decided against mentioning their names after being advised not to.
He maintained that differences in professional standing were normal in the film industry and urged actors to understand their individual worth when negotiating contracts.
